BEWARE OF HIDDEN "TIP" CHARGES WHEN USING UBER SERVICES

Problem description:
On February 4, 2018, I contacted Uber Technologies to arrange transportation from Sky Harbor International Airport to my home.  Upon arrival at my destination, I approved the charge of $37.43 via the Uber app on my cell phone and added a $5.00 tip for a total charge of $42.73. Which appeared on the Uber app as the final charge. When I checked my bank account to verify the charge, there was an additional $5.00 tip charge pending, bringing the total charge to $47.43. I contacted Uber via email and was advised that, "We have applied a credit to your account in the amount of $5.00. You can view your Uber balance by selecting "Payment" from the menu in the upper left side of the app. Select Uber Cash or credit as your payment method for it to apply to your next trip. You can learn how to select Uber Cash or Credit as your trip's payment method (here). Have a nice day." Sent by Nicolas on Wednesday, February 6, at 5:29:44 AM.  Since I don't plan to use Uber again in the future, I requested that my bank account be credited the $5.00 instead. My request was repeatedly refused, writing: "We're unable to adjust the tip you've provided, as these funds are made available immediately to the driver. We appreciate your taking the time to write in." Sent by AK on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 6:00.26 AM. The $5.00 additional tip charge is tantamount to theft, as it was not the amount I contractually agreed to pay for Uber services. Uber is responsible for the unauthorized $5.00 charge to my bank account.

A $5.00 credit to my bank account and no further contact with Uber Technologies.
